Fitness Tracker Frenzy

Age is an inevitable reality.  Dang it all!  Gravity has ‘fun’ repositioning our various body parts as they grow and contract (mostly grow) as we advance in years.

Alas, another sad reality.  So, what can we do to stave of this reality? Age. Weight. Fitness Apathy.

I recently posted an article I read from Inc.com, “The 1 Habit That Can Make the Most Positive Impact on Your Life: Exercise is a keystone habit”

The main points of this article are:

  1. Form a habit (“when people focus on changing a single behavior at a time, the likelihood that they’ll retain their new habit for a year or more is around 80 percent.”)
  2. Exercise is a ‘keystone habit’ (“keystone habits are good habits that lead to the development of other good habits.”)
  3. Maintain exercise as a keystone habit (“Three components involved with maintaining a habit: a cue, a routine, and a reward.”)

So, how do we make all this work?  We’re creatures of comfort, as well as habit. That’s where GADGETs come from!

An internal pool of JUMP staff would indicate we collectively use the following exercise trackers and applications:

MisFit, FitBit, MyMapRun, My Fitness Pal

…and, of course, PEER PRESSURE!  Truly, the best source of inspiration and butt-kicking to work out that I’ve seen since I’ve been at JUMP has been the guilt-pleasure trip given by my staff to each other and myself.

We all know that we need to eat right, exercise, reduce stress, breath and live a smoke free life.  Best thing to do is do all this with people who you trust and care about.

My advice: No excuses. Do it. And, brag about it with your co-workers.

…and have a bottle of Motrin in your glove box.
