Tech Tip: Big Changes for the ‘Gram

If you’re a millennial you probably love Instagram, but if you work in social media then you may not love it so much when it comes to managing a client’s account.

There’s a lack of apps that truly integrate with the platform for scheduling posts that will automatically post and analytics tools that are easy and free to use. For example, InsTrack App makes you buy specific features for $1.99 – $2.99. If only Instagram just offered built in analytics for free like their parent company Facebook does for business owners…

Now, we can stop waiting. Instagram recently announced it would be rolling out business profiles this year. This is huge for brands, large and small, to help them use the platform to its fullest potential.

There’s many awesome features I’m ‘geeking’ out over, but what I’m most excited for are the built-in analytics for business pages. It will include what you would expect from analytics: impressions, reach, engagement, best posting times and audience demographics. It’s a marketing goldmine to better optimizing your Instagram content and better reporting to evaluate the current strategies and tactics.

Another feature I’m excited about is promoting top performing content. It allows businesses to turn any post they’ve made into an advertisement right from the app. Instagram is finally taking cues from its parent company, Facebook, and making it more accessible for businesses to promote their brand and products in as few steps as possible.

There’s still no official word yet on when Instagram will be implementing these changes, but they will be released sometime this year. I’m anxiously awaiting this update, but for now, I will be sticking to the third-party apps to help (Iconosquare for analytics, and HootSuite for scheduling).
